Installing an electric gate properly involves much more than fitting a motor. It's groundwork, electrics, mechanical setup and safety – and when all four are right, the gate keeps working for years.

Installation is the heart of our business, and Adrian has been doing it across Carlisle and Cumbria for 16 years.

What I install

  • New electric gates – made-to-measure driveway gates in wrought iron, composite or timber, automated and installed.
  • Gate automation – overground, underground and sliding systems.
  • Automation for existing gates – see automate existing gates.
  • Access control – intercoms, keypads, fobs, app control and remotes. See access control.
  • Safety devices and accessories – photocells, safety edges, warning lights, battery backup and more. See accessories.

We use CAME automation for domestic and commercial gates, including heavy-duty motors for big, heavy or busy gates.

Automatic Gate Installation from Start to Finish

We handle the whole installation ourselves: the survey, the groundwork and foundations, running the power, hanging the gates, fitting the motors and wiring the controls. There's no juggling builders, electricians and gate fitters.

That single point of responsibility keeps the job tidy and on schedule, and it means there's never any doubt about who to call if you have a question later.

Electric Gate Installers Carlisle Can Rely On

Choosing an installer is about more than price. Ask whether the quote includes safety devices, force testing and a Declaration of Conformity, and what warranty you'll get.

With AutoGate Carlisle, those come as standard: BIGAA membership, installations carried out to the safety regulations, a 3-year parts and labour warranty and after-sales support. We'd rather do the job properly once than come back to fix shortcuts.

How it works

  1. First chat and survey. You get in touch, we visit and talk through what you need.
  2. Fixed quote. A clear written price with everything included.
  3. Preparation. Groundwork, foundations and cable runs.
  4. Installation. Gates hung, motors fitted, control board wired and safety devices installed.
  5. Setup and testing. The system is set up and force tested to BS EN 12453.
  6. Handover. We show you how it all works, including the manual release, and leave the manuals and Declaration of Conformity.

Installed safely and legally

Whoever automates a gate is responsible for making sure it meets the machinery safety rules. In England and Scotland that means the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

So every gate we install:

  • has the correct safety devices fitted
  • is force tested to BS EN 12453
  • has its electrics done to BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations)
  • is UKCA or CE marked, with a Declaration of Conformity and user instructions

Questions people ask me

How long does it take to install electric gates?

Automating existing gates often takes a day or two. New gates with groundwork take longer, and your quote will give a timescale.

Do I need an electrician as well?

No – we carry out the electrical work for the gate system. If your main supply needs any changes, we'll tell you at the start.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. You'll receive a Declaration of Conformity for the gate system, the manuals and a record of the force test results.

Can you install gates I've bought elsewhere?

We're happy to look at them. If they're well made and suitable for automation, yes.
